иногда внешний USB отваливается /dev/sdb

в /etc/rc.local добавил

hdparm -B 255 /dev/sdb
/dev/sdb:
setting Advanced Power Management level to disabled
SG_IO: missing sense data, results may be incorrect
APM_level      = off

hdparm -S 0 /dev/sdb
/dev/sdb:
setting standby to 0 (off)

и в crontab на раз в час.

посмотрим шо будет
